On most Fridays during the school year, 2nd and 3rd grade students throughout Warren County receive a BackPack of food that contains enough breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items to help feed them over their weekends. During BackPackular, Second Harvest Food Bank will rely on nearly 150 volunteers to fill an entire semester worth of BackPacks. In addition to filling nearly 4,000 BackPacks in one day, this years BackPackular will also serve as a fundraiser for the Warren County BackPack Program! By asking each volunteer to contribute $5 on the day of BackPackular we will be able to provide 5 children in Warren County with BackPacks for an entire school year.
“We are humbled that so many have stepped up to help fund, pack and distribute food to students throughout our service area,” said Karen Seggi, executive director of Second Harvest. “It takes a community effort to alleviate hunger. This event is a great example of many individuals working together to help feed those in need.”
In addition Warren BackPackular 2017 will take place at the old Allegheny Valley Elementary School on September 9th, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is still time to register to volunteer for our next BackPackular event.
