The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania obtains food and grocery products for distribution to 167,700 food-insecure people across 11 counties in northwest Pennsylvania.
This is done through a variety of ways.
Food distribution – member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens and mobile food pantries help to distribute food to our neighbors in need
Childhood hunger programs – the BackPack Program and School Pantry Program provide unique solutions to reach children in need of food
Senior hunger programs – Second Harvest partners with the U.S.D.A to distribute food through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program
Government programs – both the State Food Purchase Program and The Emergency Food Assistance Program are provided through government nutrition assistance to provide grocery items directly to those in need
